The powerful Odysseus might have more in common with a regular high school student then you might think. Odysseus has to persist through many struggles in his life. Along with Odysseus, I have to do that as well. Although they might not be as extreme as Odysseus’s, I work just as hard to keep going and fight through hard times. Although Odysseus and I are very different, we have similar qualities; for instance, we never give up on what we are hoping for and we always make sure we give our best effort. Odysseus and I can persist through hard times by thinking through our actions before making them. In Homer’s book, The Odyssey, Odysseus came across many roadblocks to overcome. Conquering these hardships would result in acceptance by the Gods. However, not passing the tests could result in disappointment from them. Many times throughout this book Odysseus showed strength and how determined he was to come out alive and make it home safely. Whether it is with sports or academics I make sure, I show my best effort. A time I gave one-hundred and ten percent was during soccer tryouts. Since I had played soccer all my life, the pressure was on to do good. I knew no matter what team I made, I would have to work as hard as I could every time I would step out on the field. That all started with tryouts. This was a one-week long period where everyone is evaluated on her skills. There were things like drills and running to keep us busy. When it got to the middle of the week, I just wanted them to be over but I knew that if I wanted to show them everything I had, I was going to have to work even harder.
