Quan, during the beginning of the story, his dad was arrested in his house out of nowhere, which just scared Quan really badly after his dad got arrested. His mom would get married to a man named Dwight. His mom would end up getting abused and mistreated by Dwight, and he would later go on and take Quan‘s mom, an EBT card and not show up for days. This will be Quan taking care of his siblings by taking food from school and stealing food from stores just to feed his two siblings, Dasia. Police officers arrested Quan's dad and used a form of excessive force against him while Quan was in the house. This also led to one of the officers finding Quan, picking him up, and holding him very tightly. This would begin to scare Quan because he didn’t understand what was going on, and he ended up peeing his pants. His neighbor would end up getting custody of him, and until his mom came, she made sure Quan was fed, and she made sure Quan had taken a bath after he had peed himself. Since Quan's dad was in prison and nobody was going to be able to provide for her, Quan and she ended up getting with Dwight because he paid all the bills.
