Stalin was a cruel and deranged man that went from the Bolshevik leader to the power hungry ruler of the USSR. His path to leadership was hard on many innocent citizens. He had a way with some of the people, not a good one, that brought him to his time of rule. Since he used communism to attract the low and poor class of USSR it brought him many followers to his feet. Communism is a system that had all property publically owned by the people and their pay would be based on their abilities and needs. His rule lead to a huge massacre of many citizens and and a constant fear for the people, which is never the right way to rule. Lenin even states in his directive to the Communist Party Leadership that, “Stalin has concentrated enormous power in his hands, and I am not sure he always knows how to use that power with sufficient caution… Stalin is too rude and this fault becomes unbearable in the office of General Secretary. Therefore I propose to find a way to remove Stalin from that position and appoint to it a man who is… more patient, more loyal, more polite, and more attentive to comrades”(Doc 7). This states the basic personality of Stalin and how many did not feel he would rule well because of the carelessness he had with the power of running a country of that size and the ignorance he shows political-wise. Another method of his terrible reign was the famine that had occurred amongst the people. He had let many people go into starvation and it didn't seem to affect him at all. As stated in the Famine Testimony of Tatiana Pawlichka, “...the communists would arrest them and shoot at them, and send them to Siberia.That summer, the vegetables couldn't even ripen… People ate leaves, nettles, milkweed. By autumn, no one had any chickens or cattle. .. There was cannibalism in our village. … The air was filled with odor of decomposing bodies. The wind carried this odor far and wide. It is safe to say that i am completely against all of Stalin’s methods of control due to all of them involving violence and fear among the people. He has proven himself to be ruthless and awful because he does not seem to care if he has to kill a whole village or have everyone as his little puppets to stay in control. He shows the ignorant use of his power and the lack of help he has given the people and leading to a whole country starvation. The main point is he will take all the freedoms of the people with the fear he constantly give off and the violence he has to show for it. There are many alternatives than to go through all this torture of the people to make the USSR just as advanced as it is today such as having communism but having a flexible but strict policy and to let the people know they have a leader that shows great communication skills rather than going into
