This essay is about how the lives of refugees and immigrants are turned inside out and back again.The refugees and immigrants go through struggle and build character through the challenges that they face.Before Ha comes to Alabama,She is an insecure 10 year old who was a bit selfish and only thought of herself. Refugees and immigrants lives are turned inside out and back again because of the struggles of war.Throughout this time their whole character can change and they can be a completely different person.The passage says ¨After I found out about my fatherś death,everything seemed so useless.I wasn't the same person anymore.¨ In children of war,Amela relates to Ha because they have both lost their fathers which changed both of their characters a lot.It caused an impact because of the war that made them different people.This quote says ¨Brother Vu chops; the head falls; a silver blade slices.¨ Ha´s papaya tree represented her hope.She cares about it so much.Chopping it down made her unhappy,so she lost her hope.¨She cannot bear to look into fathers forever-young eyes.¨Ha lost her father,its like losing a part of herself.It caused such a big impact on her character.Ha relates to the children of war because all of their lives are turning inside out. …show more content…
This quote states ¨I like it better than being a refugee in croatia.¨Amela coming to North America,to her means a lot.She is finally safe, better than being a refugee in Croatia.The book says ¨The sugar has melted off, leaving moist,plump chewy bites,hummmmm...not the same,but not bad at all.¨ pg.234.Ha is getting a taste of hope.Papaya means so much to her.She finally has a place to call home.¨To me: A new coat.we laugh and say ¨perfect¨.¨ Ha never got new things at her old home.Her life is becoming like a new normal.These children are all getting hope
