Pages 84-86: I chose the scene when Jeanette was sexually assaulted by Billy Deel. Jeanette received a turquoise ring from Billy as a gift, she took the present to be something casual and though nothing more of it than a gift. Jeanette is also aware that Billy may have had the intentions of the ring to be a gift for her to become his girlfriend, and wants nothing to do with a relationship. “But don’t think this means we’re boyfriend and girlfriend, I said. And don’t think this means you can kiss me” (84). Jeanette clearly does not want a romantic relationship with Billy, but Billy seems to be pushing his luck. There is a short scene where the girl Serena, is sexually assaulted by Chuck, a friend. In the scene, Serena is drunk and sad so Chuck offers her to come into the kitchen of his father's hotel to have a grilled cheese sandwich. Serena takes the idea to be nothing more than a friendly gesture and takes the sandwich. This can be related to the way Jeanette accepts the turquoise ring Billy offers. Serena shows her gratitude by saying “Oh my God this is so good”. Chuck chuckles and says “If you’re looking for a way to thank me, I’ve got a couple ideas”. Chuck pushes himself onto Serena and forcefully kisses her as she tries to push herself away. She screws her face and shakes her head as she repeatedly says “no”. This scene relates to Jeanette's unwanted first kiss as Billy pressed himself against her. Both guys feel as if they are indebted to receive a kiss in return. Serena eventually pushes him off as a way to defend herself like the way Jeanette bit Billy's ear. Serena pushes Chuck away firmly and he stops his actions.
