I broke the students up into groups and gave each group a theme to focus on pulling quotes from the book that relate to the theme. I thought the lesson went over very well the students were engaged and on task. All the groups worked well together. Each student contributed to the collaborative team poster. As I walked around I notice group members helping out others group members which is great interaction
I had to revise my perspective and rethink. In class I was forced to make new connections and think at a deeper level. Be prepared to debate and challenge your own personal views, some of my longstanding beliefs have changed because I had to use metacognition awareness. During class, tough to talk about subjects make a regular appearance. Come into class with an open mind.
The knowledge I gleaned from this activity resulted in a more tailored and focused learning experience for my students which met them where they were instead of assuming what they did or didn’t know. My lessons were more appropriate for the learning environment as a result of giving a pre-test and at the end of the unit both the students and I will be able to have tangible proof that our time was not wasted. Learning occurred and this pre-assessment allows us to prove
In the Norton Field Guild, chapter four is about developing academic habits of the mind. Chapter four starts out with how the student needs to engage him or herself in to their academic studies. It talks about how you should raise your hand in class and you should ask questions in class and outside of class if you don’t understand what you are learning about. The other way you should be getting involved, is getting to know the students at the school and in your class because those who are engaged tend to study more and engage in their studies. The other main point of this chapter is about being motivated to do your school work and go to school.
A running record is an important tool that is one component of a three component process to identify the students appropriate instructional text level and determine if he/she is ready to progress to the next level. The first part of establishing a running record is to have the student read from grade level passages or books and to document their reading performance. The second part requires having the student retell the passage and evaluate their comprehension by using the retelling rubrics. The last part includes having the student complete an oral or written comprehension quiz which provides information for each question describing the skill it assessed in order to identify comprehension skills that require further practice (Learning A-Z,
One of the most important actions that a student can take, is to be honest, and self-reflective, about the level of understanding achieved after completing any course within his/her education career. From my personal view, I feel that this class provided me with a great introduction to the MHA program, and is setting me up for successful in this educational program; but with that being said I would not pretend that I was able to assimilate every concept that was presented in this course, I would definitely need to continue to review the material in this course and on the MHA program overall, so that I could be a knowledgeable, and effective Health Care Manager. When it comes to my ability to discuss the different learning outcomes, I have to say that I definitely acquired a much deeper understanding of the material presented in this course. The materials were not difficult concepts to understand, but sometimes the way the material was delivered made it a difficult task just to read through the information, but as I would imagine, we are trying to achieve an education at a much higher level, which requires the processing and understanding of much more complex information, that sometimes will be
The purpose of group learning and development is to ensure that all learning styles are catered for and the ultimate goal of sharing knowledge is achieved. When using a group to deliver something new each individual can call on a fellow participant to confirm understanding. 1.2 Explain why delivery of learning and development must reflect group dynamics When delivering to a group it is important to consider, what is the normal behaviour within the group? Who plays what role?
In the novel All Quiet on the Western Front there are many good examples of comradeship. Comradeship should have been and is a major part of this story. Think about it, fighting day and night for your life isn’t an easy task to do alone. Friends and acquaintances are going to come in real handy when in war. Remarque does a very good job implying this theme.
Cooperative learning model is an active process where students work in small teams/groups, each with students of different levels of ability, use a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject. Students have opportunities to actively participate in their learning, question and challenge each other, share and discuss their ideas, and adopt their learning. Ross and Smyth (1995) describe successful cooperative learning tasks as intellectually demanding, creative, open-ended, and involve higher order thinking tasks. In this model, it is essential to create a positive climate where interpersonal skills can be promoted so that positive emotions will be fostered among learners. Cooperative learning also helps the learners to feel empowered and respected to prepare them to face real
This semester I have learned a considerable amount in Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise. The wide array of content covered helped me learn a lot about different subjects. Some of my favorite activities were the Fitness Fridays and the various speakers. I was glad this class had a mixture of ways that the material was presented because it helped really understand the topics. The main topics that I feel like changed my lifestyle the most were the Behavior Change Contract, the Access Yourself Quizzes, and the lectures.
At first, the teacher welcomed the students and asked them to write for five minutes “morning pages.” Students had to be completely silent, whatever is in their mind (free writing) serving a tool to practice “mindfulness.” This was a double exercise activity; it gave the opportunity for students to develop writing stamina, and Mrs. Carbone uses their writing as a tool to measure learning. Right after that, the teacher explained the lesson for the day, the class objectives.
According to Dr. Banerjee (2015) students gives more ideas about the task assigned to them in collaborative learning process. Each student has a very important role in having a collaborative work. Learning is what students “do” and not what they “get” as passive receivers. The teachers are the facilitators of the students and not the “giver” of knowledge. Through this process the students learn not by being fed the information, but rather giving their own insights on a certain topic as well as the insight of others.
Additionally, I was able to lean on group members and lend support where needed. I felt secure knowing I could depend on them when I had little direction, and that gentle persuasion was reassuring. What I gained from this is to prepare myself for different scenarios in the classroom, and how I can use valuable tools like IBL to become skilled with knowing certain social policies and ways of approaching and utilising investigative techniques to come to a better understanding of clients I will eventually work with and help to guide in the future.
It is one of the most effective forms of learning. Working in isolation is very restrictive and gives a slow progress. Critical thinking is also encouraged when learners work in groups. Through collaborative activities such as writing, debates, group projects and more they learn to work together and to respect each other contribution. The traditional relationship between student and teacher is changed with collaborative learning.
