Procedural History: At the suppression hearing, Hayes said he asked Macabeo basic questions that he would normally ask on a stop. He thought the defendant was acting fidgety so he conducted a patdown which did not reveal anything suspicious. He removed his cell phone out of his pocket and handed it to Officer Raymond. Raymond searched the phone without consent from the defendant.

“A stop involves only a temporary interference with a person’s liberty” ("Stop and Frisk," n.d.). If the officer finds anything on the person during the frisk, then they officer can make an arrest, otherwise, the person is released ("Stop and Frisk," n.d.). The New York “stop and frisk” law says “police officer may stop any person... in a public place whom he reasonably suspects are committing crimes and may demand… his name, address and an explanation of his actions," and when the officer "suspects that he is in danger…he may search such person for a dangerous weapon" ("Stop and Frisk," n.d.). In this case, Officer Martin, used the fact of knowing Sibron was associating himself with narcotic addicts as probable cause and reasonable suspicion; but it is not justifiable under the Fourth
That is reasonable suspicion. The Supreme Court's decision involved the fact that the officer had nothing but a feeling that the men were up to no good, and had a reasonable doubt that they were
I felt like no one would believe me. I couldn’t tell anyone. I kept it in till now... I still am scared. Definition of stop and frisk: “Stop and frisk” is the police practice of temporarily detaining people on the street, questioning them, and possibly also frisking or searching them.
The race relations were also challenged during the 1960s. There were more and more immigrants coming to Britain after 1945 and they had to find a way to deal with it. The fact that there was already a housing crisis in the capital made it that much harder for Londoners to accept them. Far-right groups looked to take advantage of the situation by urging people to throw the immigrants out and spreading their slogan "Keep Britain White". Because of them and the growing tension between the communities, the number of violent acts against coloured people increased largely in 1958.
Community Action Project We all live in a society where criticism is inevitable. People are afraid to express any pride in their nationality due to the fear of being judged by everyone around them. Racial microaggressions affects one’s ability to freely express their racial backgrounds without the fear of being inaccurately represented. Individuals of different ethnics are assuming what others are like based on their appearances in the media.
Race Relations in Texas History Texas has long been regarded as The Lone Star State, and throughout its history, attracted many different cultures and ethnicities to call it home. Some migrated to the land for gold, other to escape religious persecution in European countries. From the early contact with Native Americans to the discrimination of illegal immigrants in present day, the history of Texas teems with examples of issues of races relations. Texas’ long battle with racism began with the discovery of the Mexico and Texas area in the 1500s by the Spanish. Motivated by the fabled riches and cities of gold to be found in the new world, these men, known as conquistadors, began a journey into unknown territory, and with them, brought immense
Race-related events have been occurring for centuries. I agree that it is in reverse in our time of age. I know about Sandra Bland, the girl who was dead at the site of her picture taking. This is so wrong and destructive against black women. This was racism towards a women who was not a criminal.
Conflict theory has been used to describe the discrepancies in power and distribution of resources among the dominate group and the subordinate groups. Racial inequalities and racism among the groups has played a big role in the concept of conflict theory. Conflict theory examines the rising conflict between the dominate group, or white ruling class, and racial minorities, such as African Americans. This conflict and inequality among the races may be a reason why 20.2 percent of African American males die by homicide. In fact, African Americans are six times as likely as whites to be killed by homicide.
Dr. CJ, Racial divide is much like other issues we face in a fallen world, in that it will never be eradicated. With that said, I am still optimistic that we can decrease the amount of discontent toward first responders in our communities by matching the mission statements of the organizations with their actions. Or in simple terms, make the organizations more diverse which is in many cases responding to their needs. Clackamas fire (D1) states in its values: anticipate and respond to the needs of the community(clackamasfire.com, n.d., Mission Statement). Which, I do believe D1 does well.
Race and ethnicity are two terms which are used interchangeably in every day conversation, however, there is a distinction between the two. Race is a categorization of people who have been singled out as inferior or superior, often on the basis of phenotype – observable physical characteristics such as skin color, hair texture, eye shape, or other selective attributes. Race is a social construct and has been known to change with historical and political events. Contrarily, ethnicity does not necessarily provide visual clues, instead, ethnicity is categorized on the basis of a shared common culture and includes elements such as language, norms, customs, religion, music, art, literature. Ethnic Groups are developed by their unique history
There has been many controversial issues about the “stop-and-frisk” law. One side believes that it is racially profiling the communities of minorities and the other side believes that it is helping communities rise away from violence. There is a lot of history and background on stop-and-frisk and how it originated in the United States, especially in different places around the world. This law has been very controversial even within the law itself, so controversial states are debating on getting rid of it completely. Many politicians speak on this tactic in both positive and negative ways and the statistical growths and decreases on this topic.
Solommon Yohannes October 5th, 2017 Sociology& 101 Mr. Woo Racial Inequality Viewed Through the Conflict Perspective Lens The racial inequality that we have in modern day blossomed from the historic oppression and comprehensive prejudice of minority groups. From the very beginning of “American” history, other groups of people who were not of European decent were discriminated against and treated inhumanely and without the smallest regard for their lives. Native American populations were decimated by diseases brought oversea by Europeans and forced from their ancestral lands by settlers to make room for their expanding populations.
This chapter explains the difference between race and ethnicity and how they came about. It also explains the advantages and disadvantages some have due to the creation of race. Race and ethnicity have strong foundations not only within countries, but between them. Globalization has increased the individual’s ethnic identities, but has also put some at disadvantages. Having different races and ethnicities is not an issue, but ranking the different races and putting others at disadvantages creates issues.
