The movie Radio is about a high school football coach (Coach Jones) and his relationship he makes with a mentally handicapped person (Radio) who is always walking around his school. Throughout the movie, Coach Jones has people resist his and this mentally handicapped man’s relationship. Coach Jones lets Radio help him out with running the football team and after the season is over Coach Jones decides that he wants to continue to mentor Radio. Coach Jones is also a teacher and the athletic director of the high school so he tries to get Radio involved with day to day school activities. I have been dismissed more times than I can remember and a lot of people have ignored me because of my visually apparent mental disability. I can relate to Radio’s story because when people counted me out, there were people were at CSP who saw potential in me and mentored me to become the man I am today. Coach Jones saw something in Radio. Almost everybody who had contact with Radio dismissed the idea that he could do great things in this world. One of the many lessons that we can take away from Radio is that all a person needs is one person to believe in them. When these people show altruism to the people in need, people can see their own potential and do good things for the world. In my particular case, there were two members of staff who saw potential in me. I was a B or C student before I walked on CSP’s campus. Today, I am not only a person who graduated college with distinction, I am also an A student in a reputable MBA program. In the beginning of the movie, Radio is just another mentally handicapped person that walked the streets of a small South Carolina
