In the United States, the minimum wage is currently $7.25. Over the past 30 years congress has attempted to pass a bill to raise the minimum wage three times. Some people argue that it would improve the quality of life, but it would be at the businesses expense. The current federal minimum wage should be raised. The current wage is not enough to support a person or a family because of inflation the minimum wage is not what it should be at according to ALF-CIO. It would be $18.42 if it matched the inflation rate. For a worker that works 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year they only make $15,080. One way this large group of Americans supports themselves is government support. If the minimum rage was raised, millions of people would be able to support themselves and not rely on the government, saving the United States millions of dollars each year. Also a boost in the minimum wage would put a lot of money back into the economy. As employees are able to spend more, more money travels through the economy.
