Raising the Legal Driving Age to 18 When we are on the road driving, everybody messes up some time because no one is perfect. Even if you have a perfect driving record that doesn’t mean you have not gone left of center before or cut a turn to wide or to short. The main issue with teen drivers today however is their lack of experience. While the older generations think they can cheat a little when they drive because they know how to get away with it, the opposite is true for teen drivers. They just are not experienced enough to do everything correctly all of the time. Teen drivers have not developed IPDE; Identify, Predict, Decide, and Execute. This acronym comes from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles as a way to help avoid crashes. Teen drivers should have more experience with an instructor in the car, grading them, because teen drivers are the least experienced and have the most crashes per one million …show more content…

Even though driving is a part of the social aspect of high school it should not risk lives for them to take part in it. Sixteen year old teenagers are not capable of making responsible driving based decisions. It is not their fault however, because their brain has not developed fully yet. It is more of an age issue than an experience issue. I think that the driving age should be raised to 18 because of the statistics about teen drivers’. With the student’s grades improving and kids not having the feeling that they need a job to pay for the car, there would be no reason not to raise the legal driving age. They should have more time driving with an instructor who would grade them in their driving just like their final test would be. If the raised the driving age to 18 they would have more instruction time to allow them to understand the different aspects and situational driving than they would encounter and be more prepared to be safer
