concerned citizen has recently wrote a paper arguing that the minimum legal driving age should be raised. The paper was titled, Raise the Driving Age. There is no point in raising the minimum driving age, because most points that argue against it can easily be proved unethical or detrimental. By the age of 16, most teenagers have matured and should be able to handle the privilege of driving. The citizen makes a defamatory statement by stating, “As most experienced motorists would agree, young drivers (16-17 years old) are often irresponsible and obnoxious.” This statement is based off of the citizen’s own personal experience with young drivers. The young drivers that this citizen has encountered is not necessarily representational of the young drivers throughout the nation. The citizen states, “The high risk of teenage drivers is also evident in the increased premium rates for teenage drivers. The insurance companies know who the high risk drivers are and charge accordingly.” Insurance companies charge more to cover teenage drivers, because they are inexperienced. By raising the minimum driving age, you aren’t eliminating the inexperienced drivers. You are changing the age group that will be unexperienced. This would slow down the process of young people gaining experience and becoming better drivers. On top of everything, the insurance companies want to make money. They are willing to have higher rates, because it makes them more money. They will charge whoever is most inexperienced, not a certain age group. A side note that should be taken from this is that if the age group that in inexperienced rises, college students will not only have to pay insurance rates, but they will also have to deal with the debt from student
