Explain Why The Driving Age Should Be 18

Nearly one in five 16 year old drivers are involved in an accident within the first year of driving, for me, this is scary. As a teenager myself I don’t think most teens are ready to drive at 16. An average 10 teenages are killed in a car accident everyday. These adolescents are only 16 to 18 years old, their lives are only just beginning. I think the minimum driving age should be 18 because teens are not ready for the responsibility, teens have too much on their minds to be driving, and teenagers are just too tired to be driving. Firstly, teens are not ready for the responsibility of driving. Sixty one percent of teens admit to risky driving. Twenty one percent of these accidents are caused by teenagers being reckless texting on their cellphones. A lot of teen car accidents are caused by teens acting out of impulse. For example, a huge impulsive thing teens do when driving is one of their parent’s greatest fears, drinking and driving. Until a person is 21 their brain is not fully developed, for some it’s longer than that. Adding all the knowledge one has to know to drive to the already long list of things swirling around in a teen’s brain is not very smart. Fifty Five percent of teens are concerned with the level of knowledge and skill they have while driving, this causes them to make the wrong decision by over thinking their actions.
