Explain Why The Driving Age Should Not Be Raised To 21

Recently, controversy has arisen over whether the driving age should be raised to 17. In fact, it is 17 in New Jersey. Changing the driving age would not be a good idea, and would not prevent many fatal accidents. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Lately, crashes for 16-year-olds have been decreasing, while crashes for 18-year-olds have been increasing. Also, all ages take the same written test. In addition, some 16-year-olds need to drive to school and other activities. Driving skills are not determined by the age of the driver. The driving age should not be changed.

The driving age should not be raised because some 18-year-olds are worse drivers than 16-year-olds. Recently, crashes for 16-year-olds have been decreasing, while crashes for 18-year-olds are increasing. Why? People are waiting until 18 to get a license so they can skip Driver’s Ed. Although the 18-year-olds still have to take a written test, they are less experienced when they get their licenses. Full driver's privileges are granted when they hit the age of 18. If a 16-year-old can do just a well as an 18-year old on the test, then they should both be able to drive. Your age doesn’t affect how well you do on the test. How you do on the test is based upon whether or not you know the rules of the road. An 18-year-old who doesn’t know the rules of the road should not be able to get a license. If a 16 year old is able to pass the test, it means they are capable of comprehending the information, and can start driving. Therefore, a 16-year-old who knows the rules, and can prove it in the driving test, should be able to get a license. A well-educated 16 year old driver will be way safer than a 18 year old driver that skipped
