Author Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow." Based on my experiences, I agree with Emerson's statement. If you have mastered a task, what is the point of sticking to a pattern? I believe that unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow because you have to go outside of your comfort zone to learn new things and keep yourself excited, becoming stagnant will bore and frustrate you, and you can discover new talents and abilities by going beyond what you are used to. Having new experiences and exceeding your standards is key to keeping yourself satisfied and alive. Overall, I agree with Emerson's statement because becoming stagnant will bore and frustrate you. My last reason for agreeing with Emerson's statement is that you can discover new talents and abilities by going beyond what you are used to. The only way to discover yourself and your abilities is to try new things. Personally, I am a soccer player and a runner, so when my soccer coaches announced that my school was starting a field hockey team and that they would also be coaching that, I was skeptical as to my abilities in this sport. Even though this was quite an odd sport and completely different from any that I have ever tried, I decided to give it a shot, and I turned out to love it! Even my coaches were thrilled with how well I picked up the new sport, and I never would have known about this ability if I had not gone out of the box and tried something new!
