Chrystal Meeker When becoming a mother, the first instinct is to protect and raise a healthy child at whatever cost. Habits are drop as well as large life changes. The last bite is given as well as altering one’s life style to insure the child has no needs. This could mean getting rid of negative, toxic people who could pose as a threat or even a sleeping pattern may need to be altered. However, the child comes first and the mothers wants are secondary.
The moment she gave birth something sunk into her mind, that she could never fully comprehend until that moment. As she holds her child in her arms, taking extra precautions, so that her child doesn’t get hurt, she realizes that it is now her job to take care of her baby. That her biggest concern is no longer herself, but the child who was not in her arms yesterday. That yesterday’s problems are no longer of concern to her. That it is her job to provide and raise a human being.
In the Chicago Tribune, August 1, 2000, Darryl E. Owens (Knight Ridder) writes about a birthing practice used for thousands of years that has made a renewed entrance into American Healthcare entitled, “Childbirth ‘Doulas’ Take Root” (Owens, 2000). I found this article to be very interesting as I am studying to enter nursing school, and I have a desire to work as a nurse in women’s health, especially obstetrics. This article describes a different approach to preparing and supporting expecting families before, during and immediately after childbirth. The author, Darryl E. Owens is an editorial writer specializing in criminal justice, race relations, and social services for the Chicago Tribune, and has also featured articles in Teen Magazine.
The secure babies used their mothers as a base to explore and as a protective safe haven. They were upset when the caregivers left but when they returned, they brought safety to the baby. Babies who had an avoidant attachment, didn’t want their caregiver upon return to the room. The caregivers for these babies may have been unresponsive to their signals of distress. Some babies were also classified as having resistant attachments, and tried kicking or arching their backs when comforted by the caregiver.

Through the use of complex structure, shifting points of view, and precise diction selection, the speaker adds depth and emotion to both of the characters and utilizes the topic of coming of age that overall sheds light on how a relationship can change over time.
I am writing this letter to support Jessica Evans’ application to the Master of Arts in Psychology program (Industrial/Organizational concentration) at the University of West Florida. I have served as Ms. Evans professor and academic advisor since fall 2016. Currently, she is enrolled in my Research Methods and Statistics II course and is working with me for Psychological Research and Investigations. Over the past semester, I watched Ms. Evans work as a full-time student, work an internship, and work a part-time job all while earning a 3.529 GPA. As a result, I observed her strengths to be determination and hard work.

The arrival of a new baby, especially the first always marks a new beginning for a mother. It comes with a lot of challenges more so if the mother is less knowledgeable about baby care. Take such as cleaning the baby for the first time, or feeding, it is not easy. The baby is still fragile and slippery and needs a special care. But if the mother is not ready for all these, or maybe, does not have any knowledge on what to do, the baby’s life might be endangered since the baby needs a special care which only the mother can give.
