Randall Brent Woodfield, more popularly known as the I-5 killer, was born on December 26, 1950. Woodfield was commonly known to have the nickname “Randy” (Ghose). Woodfield was born in Oregon, in a town known to be Salem. In his early years of childhood, Woodfield's life was portrayed to be well functioned. He grew up in a family-oriented home, in the middle class that had no sign of the family, nor Woodfield being dysfunctional (Rosewood, 399). While attending high school Woodfield was very well-known in his community and school. He was more popularly known for his athletic abilities. Excelling in the sport of football, Woodfield had been considered a football star in his hometown (Rosewood, 399). Woodfield played wide receiver for his football team, and he excelled tremendously in this position. He was a very important aspect of his high school's football team and many people saw his talents (Hallman). Woodfield gained interest in athletics by the persuasion of his father, persuading him into the athletics of football, basketball, and track (Ghose). Woodfield was not only involved in football but was also active in his school's Campus Crusade for Christ And the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (Hallman). Woodfield’s family life was perceived as normal with no real concern, but there were complications within the household. Woodfield was in an overcast shadow of his two older sisters (Hallman).
