Consent by definition is giving permission to someone to do something. Rape by definition is having sexual intercourse with a person without their consent. Stealing by definition is taking something without permission (consent) and without intent to return it. Both rape and stealing are two crimes that happen every day, yet only one them is ever openly talked about regularly. Only one of these crimes is the majority of people who commit this crime go to jail. Rape against women is a social injustice because it is a crime with no justice for its victims. Every day men make a choice to force a woman into having sex and then believe they are the victim for choosing to commit the crime. Recently Brock Turner, a star swimmer at Stanford University, was charged with rape of an unconscious woman. At a frat party one night he decided he was going to take advantage of a girl who had blacked out. Behind a dumpster at the frat house he got on top of her and continued to rape her. Two boys riding bikes passed by and saw what he was doing and immediately ran over to help. Turned then took off running. He was tackled by one of the boys riding the bikes and held down till the police got there. The woman woke up to the police and no recollection of what had happened to her. While in the courtroom, the prosecutors asked for at least six years for this unimaginable crime, but the judge thought otherwise. The judge believed punishing a star athlete would be detrimental and have a “severe impact” on him. Turner was sentenced to six months in jail, and walked free after only serving three. He claims that his situation has ruined him and his swim career because of the choice he made that night, never taking what that night did to that woman into consideration. This injustice of allowing men to walk away with little punishment is giving woman no hope and instilling fear in them. When no justice is served, it makes woman hide
