Books are a rare sight and if they are owned by a person they can be placed under arrest. Firemen are called in to reported houses that contain books to burn the house down. Firemen have rules such as, answer the alarm quickly, start the fire quickly, burn everything, report back to the firehouse immediately, stay alert for next alarm. The antagonist, a fireman named Guy Montag, lived in a time where books are illegal, people didn't think independently, or have meaningful conversations. Instead, they were more concerned with work so they could pay for wall-sized televisions, newer cars, and radios the size of seashells. As a fireman, Guy actually started fires instead of putting them out. Firefighters at that time responded to emergency calls, that reported the locations of books, and the firefighters burned them.

Imagine a world with no books, no phones, no laptops, nothing that involves reading. Guy Montag, a 30-year old who has been a fireman since he was 20 decided that one day he wanted to read a book instead of burning it. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, a community is slowly stripped down to people who do not care what happens to them or to others. When books and everything that involve reading are taken away from Montag's society, they slowly lose emotion with the world and become careless about everything, even life itself.
In life, there is a reason behind every decision a person makes; Whether that decision be what to eat for breakfast, or how to respond to an email, one thing always remains constant… There are many factors that have a say in how every moment plays out. This same logic also applies to Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. In the story, Montag’s imminent arrest, Beatty’s constant taunting, and Beatty’s subconscious desire to die bring about Montag’s decision of murdering Beatty.
Did Ray Bradbury write Fahrenheit 451 to warn people of the consequences we can encounter if we burn books? I wonder if he wrote it as a warning of what we can face in the future if we rely more on technology rather than books. I believe he wanted us to understand that books serve an important purpose in our lives and removing them can affect everybody as a society. Bradbury wanted us to understand that books are knowledge, they are power and without them, us as humans would lose a part of us. He also set a warning of what he thinks would happen if we keep getting led on by technology.
The novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury shows us a future in which people spend all day in front of a television that tells them absolutely nothing useful or helpful. People fill their mind with such nothingness as that, and they do not have real-time or reason to think. The people of the future block out thoughts with their constant time in front of noise and confusion. In the book, Bradbury implies that without thought, people are just unhappy and find no reason for their life.
THEME The themes in Fahrenheit 451 all follow the path of government control reigns supreme. Firstly, when Montag first meets Clarisse, he tells her, “‘You think too many things,(Bradbury, 6)”. He has been conditioned to not trust anyone who thinks deeply, and is uneased by her manner. In his job, he associates thought with rebellion, and danger.
In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Instead of reading, this society watches a big portion of television as big as the wall and listens to the radio attached to their ears. It is not normal for pedestrians to talk and have meaningful conversations until Montag met a 17 year old teenager named Clarisse McClellan. Montag sees Clarisse as a strange girl that opened up his thoughts. She asked him about his work and what made him become a fireman which nobody has really asked him. After the meeting with Clarisse many events started to happen to him, his wife Mildred tried to commit suicide with pills, a woman that hid books in her home decides to burn alive with her books, and Clarisse is killed in a car accident.
Ray Bradbury’s novel ‘Fahrenheit 451’ warns of the dangers of technology and blind obedience through the character of Mildred Montag amongst others. Although Mildred is a minor character throughout the text, her image as the poster girl of the dystopian vision of the future Bradbury had created highlights that in a society where technology is all-powerful and all-consuming, true happiness is seldom found. Bradbury depicts characters who have an awareness of life outside of technology to be genuinely happier and more sincere, whereas those who have conformed to mores of society are consequently dissatisfied with life.
