The purpose of this paper is to identify a core reading program (CRP) and interview a teacher that uses the program. The interview questions were provided which included, the anatomy of the program, naming areas of strengths and weaknesses, whether there are any supplemental materials used, and how does the program make use of new literacies and technology.
The (CRP) used is the Success for All reading program called Reading Roots. Success for All is a foundation that supplies children with several strategies for learning. The reading program is called the Reading Roots 4th Edition which is a ninety-minute program that aims to the needs of beginning readers. Reading Roots also fosters students’ love of reading by providing rich literature experiences, extensive oral-language development, and thematically focused writing instruction. These objectives are implanted in a fast-paced, engaging, and highly effective instructional process. Students are assessed and regrouped according to their reading level every quarter to ensure that they receive the most focused instruction. Reading Roots is comprised of forty-eight lessons. Separated into four levels, it supports concept development in oral-language development, phonemic awareness, phonics, word skills, fluency, and writing. Second and third grade nonreaders can be regrouped into Reading Roots classes.
