While people participate in various methods of everyday reading and writing, there are extensive benefits to be gained from extending the experience to apply these abilities to literature. In the beginning chapter of Literature: A Portable Anthology, third edition the benefits of reading, analyzing, and writing about literature is explored, while also explaining literature class expectations, at a college or university level. Reading literature expands horizons by exposing readers to various perspectives, locations, and interactions, which molds opinions, attitudes, and behaviors. Reading may seem like an run of the mill thing where you laugh at the funny jokes, glare into the abyss when the text possess a provocative quote. To Mike Bunn the author of “How to Read Like A Writer,” has a different interpretation of what reading should be. Mike Bunn emphasizes that reading should be more than just context, he argues that you need to question the authors’ choice of words, literary devices, sentence placement, in order to be able to become better readers and writers ourselfs. He presents it to the audience in a manner that is very interactive. He begins by explaining what he means to “Read Like a Writer”(Bunn, How to Read Like A Writer), followed by questions that should be asked about the text and writing style, and techniques that should be done to become a more proficient writer.
The Synopsis that I gathered from Haas and Flowers’ “Rhetorical Reading Strategies and the Construction of Meaning” was none the less another interesting read. Experienced readers might come to understand that both reading and writing can be “context-rich, situational, and have constructive acts”. Though a large number of students may find reading and writing more or less to be an exchange of valued or non-valued information. Continuing on, multiple studies that have been conducted have also found that on average 77 percent of experienced readers tend to use content strategies to expand their knowledge of the reading. These strategies usually include vigorous annotations of the reading/writing that have been shown to improve the readers/writers’ comprehension of the material.

This is currently my first year enrolling in Richland College, but the experience is just the beginning. The earliest memory of reading was all the syllabus that each class had before school started. I chose to be in college because I’m striving for a better future, instead of working at a retail store and less pay for all the work I’ve contributed. Being an expert reader can help me out in the long run because it helps me with comprehension and critical thinking when I encounter a real world problem. Now getting in idea of what we are doing in class, I think you are doing just fine helping me prepare for what is ahead of me
Despite there being a distinct theme in all three of the articles, each one provides a similar message. I think the purpose of each article was to help the audience improve their reading and writing skills by a great deal. In the article “How to Read Like a Writer,” by Mike Bunn, the author focuses on helping the reader sharpen their reading skills and gives insight on what he thinks a good reader is like. He explains to his audience that readers need to focus more on what type of material they are reading in order to understand the work. Bunn is correct in making this point, and I feel as though I read material thoroughly in order to have a sense of comprehension or what the author is talking about.
Haas and Flowers also say that reading should be thought of as a constructive process in which the reader will have a better understanding of what they are reading and how to view it. I agree that as the process of reading should be more constructive and rhetorical because it generates and improves the way we think and learn. When I am able to understand or am interested in what I am reading versus what I remember what I read, it allows me to be a better writer. Based on Haas and Flowers research many students use different construction strategies which does not always lead to rhetorical thinking. If students are directed into a more realistic way of deciphering what they read it could also make them a better writer.
This chapter can help young writers in English class with their papers in many different ways. For instance, Trimble gives examples on what a veteran writer does in order to make their writing interesting. He also gives out techniques on how you can get a reader’s attention or how you can fix your writing to make it readable instead of having nonsense. What makes this difficult for me as a writer is that I write what ever comes to my mind and it will not make sense. Another thing that makes it difficult for me as a writer is that I am not good at getting the readers attention and having him hooked on to my work.

Writing is an essential part of an individual’s success. Writing comes in many forms, and it is not only used in an English course. It can be an email to a college professor, a resume, a lab report, a hotel review, etc. There are countless forms are writing, and it is important to understand how to approach each piece of writing. Writing is part of an individual’s daily life, and understanding the importance of rhetorical knowledge, genre knowledge, and audience awareness with make it easier to approach different types of writing, and ultimately improve one’s writing skills.
Reading my first essay written in this class, I have been able to see some flaws and things I would change about my writing now. My changes would mostly include grammatical and organizational modifications, as I still believe the core content of the paper is good and fulfilled the assignment. I consider myself to have grown as a writer throughout my time in this class. However, I recognize that my first essay was one of my higher paper grades in the class. In this paper, I will talk about the factors in the Reading Response essay that I would change and why I have grown as a writer.
All of which helped tremendously with becoming a more precise writer and developing my identity as a writer. In the beginning of this course we worked with different readings that were intended to challenge us intellectully. Readings such as “To see your story clearly, start by pulling the wool over your own eyes” which is found the New York Times and “All Writing is Autobiography” by Donald M. Murray where readings that were meant to be challenging yet unfamiliar to us as well. This concept helped me greatly because it proved that I can be a flexible reader.
I 've learned that reading and writing can take me any where I want it to go. I can explore my mind to go anywhere by imagination, by reading and writing. However,My reading and writing experience since I was a kid until now I still having a difficulty. When I was 3 years old my mom started me to learn how to read and write. At first, I 'm having a difficulty to read and write but my mom tried her best to taught me.
Only some Americans might be aware that a present transgender employee is protected against any employment discrimination because of his or her status as a transgender. What is gender? Gender is the state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones). Transgender is an umbrella term for a person whose gender identity, gender expression or behavior does not match to what typically is associated with the sex to what they were assigned as at birth. There are two types of transgender, male to female and female to male.
My experience as a reader isn 't as extraordinary as many, but I love to read. I had some great teachers throughout my education that taught me to enjoy reading challenge oneself and not be intimidated by it. Through college and today I do not have much time to read, other than school books speech, education ,and reading. Those are the sweet books I know read.
