The Articles of Confederation is the compact between the thirteen states made the first government in the United States. Under the Articles, no matter the size each state had one vote in the congress. The articles jealously protected the states sovereignty. Important issues there had to be nine out of the thirteen states consent. The article failed in four places. The first reason it failed was because the national government didn’t have the right to tax. There was no provision for the independent leadership spot to direct government. The national government was not allowed to regulate interstate or foreign commerce. And lastly it failed because it couldn’t be amended without a unanimous agreement of the congress.
