INTRODUCTION
Cost control, better quality of care, and patient safety are the issues that the healthcare has been struggling with more than ever. In the recent years, more emphasis is put to find ways to solve these problems, and Google Glass can be a solution. The cost of health care in the U.S is much higher than other developed countries such as U.K and France. In 2011, the U.S spent “$8,233” per person on health care, which is “two-and-a-half times” more than most developed countries (Kane, 2012). Also, the Glass can be used for training; a surgeon can perform a live surgery, and students from anywhere in the world can see and follow the steps of the surgery. Additionally, residents can stream a patient’s examination images to attending physicians for timely clinical decision-making (Bowen, 2013). Moreover, Telemedicine would greatly benefit from the Glass; Telemedicine refers to use of electronic communication to provide clinical care to the distant patients. Telemedicine provides medical expertise to rural and remote areas that have a lower healthcare professional ratio to the population. Through Google Glass and Telemedicine, care providers such as nurses can remotely communicate with physicians, and physicians can monitor the patient. A physician put on the Glass before entering the exam room, and as the physician asks the patient what issues brought him or her in, the audio and visual information will be securely streamed through the Glass. Then, accurate information is entered into the patient’s electronic medical record. Also, by making verbal requests, physicians can have access to the patient data and search for the information that they need.
