Before the First World War, the Red Cross introduced its “first aid, water safety, and public health nursing programs” (Who is Clara Barton, 2008) In regards to natural disasters, they provided relief for the Great Depression during the 1930s and also the during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 which was the largest Red Cross Response in it’s history. Here they provided millions of people with food, shelter, and money to get back on their feet, emotional support, etc. Their first congressional charter was received in 1900 and the second in 1905. Then their third was adopted in May 2007 which “restates the traditional purposes of the organization” which includes being a form of communication between those in the American armed forces and their families as well as providing an international and national disaster relief and mitigation (Who is Clara Barton, 2008).
The Salvation Army organization began in England, in1865, by William and Catherine Booth (The Salvation Army). Before the start of the Salvation Army William Booth walked the streets of London, England preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to the poor, hungry, homeless and less fortunate. (Walker, 2001) The formation of the Salvation Army began due to the church leaders having disagreements with Booth by not participating in the traditional methods of the conventional concepts of the church (Walker, 2001). The Salvation Army began with Booth and his wife holding series of evangelistic meetings and services in set up tents.
Our group has decided to volunteer with Feed My Starving Children(FMSC) which was founded in 1987. Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a Christian non-profit organization that provides nutritionally complete meals specifically formulated for malnourished children. Its mission is to feed God’s starving children in different countries who are hungry in body and spirit. Their process is simple. Donations from people fund the meal ingredients and volunteers hand-pack the meals.
STOP-IT (Salvation Army) STOP-IT is the Chicago chapter for Salvation Army, this program is fairly new which means no one has done a study. The UN Women’s Independent Evaluation Office conducted a study on a program called UN Women. Both programs, want to end human trafficking and want to help all victims. Their main emphasis is giving a safe home to live, therapy sessions, and giving food.

If I had $1000 to give to charity, I would donate the funds to my local Salvation Army in Manitowoc, WI. I have volunteered for this organization and I know how dedicated they are to serving the people and needs of the Manitowoc community. Since the volunteers and employees of Salvation Army chapters live in the community that they serve, they have an increased responsibility and commitment to their community that is evident through the way this organization is run. For example, when there became a need for affordable day care in the Manitowoc community, The Salvation Army started a day care center to meet this need. Executive Summary The Salvation Army of the United States is one of the largest national providers of welfare services; operating in 128 countries worldwide, consisting of over 1.5 million members (i.e., officers, soldiers’ and adherents) (The Salvation Army USA, 2018). The organization prides itself for working with and advocating for the rights and needs of disadvantaged people. The promotion of values for human dignity, justice, hope, compassion and community makes the organization a leader in social justice and protection of the rights of disadvantaged and vulnerable people (The Salvation Army USA, 2018).

We already know how the American Red Cross is helpful through out different places in the world, but another important fact that should be highlighted is that the ARC uses your donations very wisely and efficiently. It is safe to say, that the 91% of our donations which go directly to help a Red Cross mission, is an incredible accomplishment.
