Amir is informed that Baba was Hassan’s father too, and Amir agrees to go rescue Sohrab from the Orphanage. Once he arrives at the orphanage, he is told Sohrab is not there. The orphanage director says a Taliban official took Sohrab a month earlier. Amir is told to go to the soccer stadium during the game the next day if he wishes to find the official. One he arrives at the stadium a Taliban is seen on the field putting two people into holes in the ground. After they are placed the Taliban official stones them to death. Amir sets up a meeting with the official who is believed to have Sohrab.

Amir’s search for redemption was expressed early on in the novel. It started with Amir wanting to redeem himself to Baba because his mother died giving birth to him. In order to redeem himself to Baba, Amir believes he must win the kite-tournament in order to win Baba’s love. Next, Amir’s quest for redemption is greatly associated with his guilt regarding Hassan’s rape. This is the main reason for Amir’s journey to Kabul in order to find Sohrab as well as his confrontation with Assef. Amir’s desire to win Baba’s love subsequently motivates him to not intervene with Hassan’s rape. Baba’s treatment towards Amir revolves around his own feeling of guilt since he cannot acknowledge Hassan as his son. In turn Baba tends to be hard on Amir and displays his love for Hassan indirectly. He does so by bringing Hassan along when he takes Amir out as well as paying for Hassan’s lip surgery for his birthday. Later in the story readers are able to view an openly loving relationship between father, Hassan and Sohrab. Once Hassan is killed and Sohrab is an orphan readers view Amir’s efforts towards becoming an adoptive father for Sohrab.
