Angaros cursed himself for letting Red live so long. The boles of the trees were too close together and their branches hung too low for him to make any good speed. Red was outdistancing him, but at least the ape man was in hot pursuit, Neph had passed Angaros soon after they'd entered the forest. Angaros had already figured out that Neph, while smart, was not what one would consider an intelligent. The Cohorts had tamed and trained several different species of animals or whatever for their own purposes. Neph was smarter than any of them, but he was still an animal, perhaps that was a good thing in this case. It wouldn't come off, so he whipped out his knife and cut it loose. It was oddly shaped, the stem was on the underside of the leaf and the leaf spread out evenly in all directions from the stem. It was latticed like a snowflake, with a little darker shade of gold membrane beneath. He rolled the leaf between his fingers, it had an oddly familiar feel to it, it felt more like cloth than a leaf. “Alright, have it your way, bring him down the hard way.” Three more figures moved forward and raised their arms, Angaros thought they held spears. He had to act, before it was too late. Angaros stepped forward. Raised his hands into the air. “WAIT! Don't do it, he can't talk.” The figures all turned toward him and Angaros saw four sets of glowing cat-like eyes, three of the silhouettes raised their spears and a voice emanated from the direction of one of the sets of glowing eyes, “Lay down your weapon intruder.” Angaros said, “Sorry, but I'll be keeping my sword close at hand.
