Reflection On Workplace Diversity

Throughout the progression of this class, I took various assessments that measured my preferred workplace attitudes. Each assessment measured different parts of my attitudes, and behaviors, within the workplace. I can honestly say, I learned a lot about myself while taking a few of these assessments. This paper will better explain who I am and focus on the key assessments that I felt were important to me. The first assessment that we took was about my attitude toward workplace diversity. Before I started my career within the county, I knew little about workplace politics. My first job was in the United States Marine Corps. I served eight years on active duty. Within the military, there is no such thing as workplace politics. You do what your told and move on. After the military, my attitude quickly changed. I was amazed of all the workplace politics within the civilian world. I quickly learned, and adapted, to workplace politics. Due to my current experience, it is no surprise that I score high within this assessment. Within this assessment, I scored a one-hundred and five. I feel that these assessments could help me manage people within the workplace. In order to manage people; the first thing that I would do would to identify all employees’ workplace attitudes. In an attempt to truly understand each employees’ attitudes, I would have each employee complete a small survey that is similar to the assessment that I took within this course. After each employee completed their own assessment, I would then carefully evaluate each assessment to get a general idea of each person’s preferred workplace attitude. This would allow me to better understand each person. I would be able to recognize what motivates a person. I truly believe this would allow me to be a successful manager and would allow me to capitalize on my political skills within the
