Without willpower, you cannot control your health; without willpower, you cannot affect your environment; without willpower, you cannot control the other character traits. Without willpower, you cannot make energy a controlling habit of your life.
With willpower, however, you can work miracles in the development of your character. Willpower can carry you over a bad start. It can neutralize a wrong environment, and it can substitute good habits for bad habits.

I turned over what was my most difficult job to date. I reflected for a moment, recollecting the nearly three years I had given voice to the organization’s motto, “Above and Beyond,” throughout the command. It sounded great, but the model was broken, and the organization was far from living up to its motto. Well, I would give some credence if above referred to LCAC operating inches above the surface and beyond described their ability to carry out assault missions on foreign beaches beyond the horizon. They provided unprecedented technical support, inventory control, and material management for twelve deployed LCAC between fiscal years 2014 and 2016. They recorded a myriad of outstanding achievements while participating in several multinational exercises and maintaining mission-ready LCAC to train for future encounters.
