Introduction: Module two focuses on revisiting the three lenses that we learned in CHYS1F90, the three lenses are developmental lens, exceptionalities lens, and sociocultural lens. These lenses will help us understand children and youth in a different perspective that will help prepare us for service-learning placement experience. The explanation of the lens gives us a better understanding what each lens focuses on and how it differs from the rest. Professor Zinga provides a description of each lens by going in detail what the purpose and focus for each lens. This explanation helped to remind what we learned last year in CHYS1F90 of what each lens entails. The students learned the importance on celebrating the difference in one another. Service learning project-involving students with special needs and disabilities. The students learned the importance that everyone is different but we’re all special in our own ways. Exceptionalities lens helps individual to view their own society and what they can do to change if something is not acceptable. The students viewed their society that using the “R-word” is not acceptable, so they took action by making poster to promote awareness in their school. Children use these harsh words not realizing the context and that a world like the R-Word can be harmful. Kronick discuss how we need to be consciously aware other cultures and appreciate cultures other than our own. Everyone has a different cultural background and home life we need to be aware that every student is not the same. For example, the student who was unable to study in her own home due to gunshots were going off around her area. Although I didn’t grow up in this lifestyle or home life this makes me more aware that other children do experience this. I like the metaphor that I learned when working at a summer camp that every child carries around a backpack. Everyday students bring their backpack to school that contains the necessary tools for learning. Metaphorical speaking inside this backpack children carry around with them that contains their emotions that weigh them done that have affect on them at school. These things may be easy or difficult to detect if the child is being affected at home or at school if they’re being bullied. Children carry emotional baggage such as guilt, depression, anger, fear etc. that may explain how the student acts in the classroom. If I am immersed with all different kinds of culture it can broaden my knowledge in so many different ways that can help me to understand and assist and be there for the
