My Experience in WRIT 101 Imagine, you are halfway done with your last and final high school English class and realize you have never really understood the point of English class until now. In all my previous English classes I was so lost and never really understood anything my teachers taught me. I was always so anxious and nervous because I was afraid that everyone else would think I was dumb since I did not understand and know as much as them. WRIT 101 has changed that and now my grade in this class is the best it has ever been in an English class thanks to Mrs. Schlauch. Over the semester, I have grown and developed as a writer, demonstrated awareness of rhetorical situations in my own writing and applied the skills and practice I have
As my final essay I am choosing to write about how this course as helped me evolve as a writer. Having worked in a business environment for 30 plus years, I was confident I would handle this class with ease. As I worked through each assignment I soon became aware of how much I did have to learn. Feeling somewhat embarrassed by the mistakes that I have made throughout my career left me feeling somewhat inadequate in my position as office manager. I would say to myself “how could I have forgotten all of the rules that apply to writing properly”.
Over the course of the semester, my main goal was to become a more precise writer and develop my identity as a writer. According too, the Portfolio Letter assignment sheet, becoming a better writer consists of precise planning, draft and revising. It also includes understanding a variety of academic genres by examining the basic characteristics that defines each type. In order too efficiently meet my goal of becoming a better writer, it was very important to have my work evaluated by others and myself as well. The use of rhetorical knowledge, critical thinking, reading and writing all are the important aspects in this course.
My writing process is what some might say is the least conventional and probably not the best, but I enjoy the way I write. I write the same way people brainstorm, the same way someone talks without revising in there head. I take the topic given and I think of a few ideas I could go with. Once I believe I have the idea I will go with, I open word on my lap top and begin writing. I first write the base of my paper getting the idea down and all of my thoughts.
Ever since gaining independence, the United States has been in a constant state of debate on countless subjects. Abortion is one of the most profoundly discussed debates in the US today. Pro-life and pro-choice are the two sides of the argument within this debate. Abortion is a continuously controversial topic in the United States because of pro-life views of religious groups, gothic narratives about the horrors of abortion, and multiple health issues; conversely, there is the pro-choice understanding of why abortion is acceptable, such as the pro-choice religious groups, the woman’s right to choose, and federal law.
Late May, 2016. I was 13 years old, about to leave on a two week long road trip, and had just discovered the magic of musicals. Before then, I had abhorred the very idea of a musical, why would people randomly burst into song and choreographed dance for no reason? Now, I can not write anything decent without a musical playing in the background. The purpose of this essay is to analyze my writing process and how my process can be strengthened, for three textual artifacts.
Although I considered myself a decent writer prior to this course, I have learned different techniques, writing styles and approaches to writing. Writing is multi-faceted. There is no exact strategy to a great piece that successfully accomplishes: reporting, invoking feelings, connection and self-reflection. I found writing to be unique to individuals and comparable to one’s DNA—no two authors are exactly alike. During this course, I have gained insight from some of the most profound writers in history to include Professor David and my classmates.
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
I have always found writing hard but now I enjoy it more. I 'm not going to lie and say that it 's easy for me because it 's hard. I get lost with my thoughts a lot. What I say sounds way better then when I put it down on a paper. I have been wanting to write a small book of something.
This semester has been a whirlwind of information and learning. I feel that I have learned so much, about my classmates, my writing, and even the English language. However, I feel that I have learned the most about myself as a writer; what I’m good at, and proudest about, what I could improve on and challenges me, and just about my writing style in general. The essay that best reflects me as a writer is the argumentative essay that we recently finished because it accurately reflects what I am proudest about in my writing, what challenges me, and what I have improved on and learned throughout the class. One of the main reasons the argumentative essay best represents me as a writer is because it most accurately reflects what I am proudest about in my writing.
ENG-122 Reflective Essay My writing process has changed tremendously over the course of this class. I feel more accomplished, confident and I feel sometimes that my ideas and thoughts just come in to my mind out of nowhere and I start writing about anything now. I pay attention to my punctuation and grammar more as I have polished them more now, not only when I write but then others write as well. I am constantly looking for errors and I highly think this is helping me a lot in my career.
I believe that through this past semester, my writing knowledge, and writing ability has grown significantly. I hope to continue growing my knowledge about writing throughout the rest of my days in school and the rest of my
Skills such as proper grammar and MLA format still need some adjustment. Even though I have things to improve, I was still able to improve some areas of my writing skills regardless even if it was a small improvement. In the beginning, like
I’ve grown as a student of English this term. I worked on several things including my weaknesses, what i struggle with on a daily basis and even my strengths. Doing this has helped me become a better reader, writer, thinker and a better person. I’ve also use the resources available, like going to tutoring and asking for help when i still feel stuck on something. Going for help is much better than trying to figure out for myself what i needed to work on.
What does writing mean to me? Writing means getting people engaged in your piece. It means people wanting to keep reading what you wrote. The biggest thing about writing to me is expressing your thoughts and letting your mind go. Using good word choice and having a strong voice in the writing is something that makes it good.
