Reflective Essay On My Writing Style

Although I considered myself a decent writer prior to this course, I have learned different techniques, writing styles and approaches to writing. Writing is multi-faceted. There is no exact strategy to a great piece that successfully accomplishes: reporting, invoking feelings, connection and self-reflection. I found writing to be unique to individuals and comparable to one’s DNA—no two authors are exactly alike. During this course, I have gained insight from some of the most profound writers in history to include Professor David and my classmates. Similar to leaders I have encountered, this experience has inspired and influenced my present writing skills and more than likely will do the same for my future ability.
In my opinion, my self in context was my strongest assignment. This is by far my favorite writing style. Speaking about my experience came naturally and I love sharing my story as well as reading about the past experiences of others. Over time I had developed a habit of using “you” in my writing. I have been confused about this basic grammar rule for years, but after reflecting I realize that it does come across aggressive and informal to the reader. In addition, my …show more content…

Additionally, photojournalism is not—I repeat—is not my career choice once I retire from the military! I found this writing style to be the most tedious and I felt as if I could not insert much of me into it. Whilst I thought I was on to something spectacular, I completely missed the criteria for this format. I used the aforementioned term criteria—this work felt rigid and overly structured initially. I digress. In my attempt to give the reader background and information to draw parallels, I ventured into more of a short story/ lyric essay realm. It was fun and I laughed at my self. In urban terms: “I thought I was doing it big!” Ultimately, vital lessons are learned through failures and courage. I will seek opportunities to grow in this area of
