Reflective Essay On My Writing Style

This ISU has allowed me to explore my writing style in more depth than I ever have before. I’ve learned so much about not only how I write, but also who I am as a writer. I decided to make each of my profile pieces a different form of writing because I wanted to demonstrate all aspects of my style. In my more creative pieces, such as my short story and poems, I used a lot of imagery, similes and metaphors in order to create a vivid picture in the readers mind. This was in contrast to the rest of my pieces, in which I used more personal stylistic elements that conveyed my inner thoughts. I feel so though none of these pieces differed from my usual style. I have a lot of experience writing in different forms and through doing this, I have learned to keep a consistent voice throughout all of my works. The most challenging part of creating my portfolio was definitely deciding what I wanted to write about. Like most authors, I struggle with writers block and it can be extremely frustrating. There were countless times where I would stare at a blank screen for hours because I couldn’t think of one single idea. In particular, I am extremely proud of “About A Boy” and “How Yoga Changed My Life”. These two pieces were my most personal ones and came straight from my heart. They contained words, thoughts and ideas that had been dying to escape from my mind. It felt typing them out felt like a release. The only piece that I struggled with was “The System”. I had originally planned to finish this story, but I reached a point where I just ran out of ideas. For days, I tried to think of how I could to progress the plotline and further develop the characters, but no avail. I hope to soon find my muse again and finish this
