“If the English language made any sense, lackadaisical would have something to do with a shortage of flowers.” -Doug Larson. Most students would agree that college is difficult. Classes are more involved and studying is more important than ever. It is not surprising that students often end up asking the instructor how they can improve their grade right before the end of the quarter.
The grade that I think to earn in Eng 1010 is an A. I practiced writing more frequently by keeping a daily journal. The journal helped to make writing a familiar part of my life and served as a continuing source of ideas for papers. I also wrote many helpful and important essays in
Everyone needs to struggle in order to preform better. Writing has always been a strength of mine, but I found it a challenge to move from the high school, six-paragraph essay format that I had grown accustomed to. Throught the course of this semester, I was able to acquire many different skills in ENG 1101 that have helped me transition into more complex writing. These include various writing techniques, MLA formatting, writing for purpose, convincing my arguments and finding and properly using sources. The portfolio I have submitted is comprised of three works of writing that I completed for ENG 1101 over the last three months.
Walking into my AP English class, one gloomy October afternoon, I was pleasantly surprised with a 100% written across the top of my essay. It was the first time I had ever received a perfect score on an essay. I was, undoubtedly, pleasantly surprised; however, inwardly, I knew how much effort I had to put in to excel in a language that used to be alien to me. As a Polish American, I grew up solely speaking Polish, not knowing a single word in English upon entering Kindergarten.
I do realize I have a lot to learn but anytime I write better than I did the essay before that is a success. So, to any future students if you are here every day and participate you will be successful this class is organized to make sure when you start writing the essays you are well prepared from all the invention techniques. I feel my style has broadened because every essay I write feels easier and more professional. My attitude about writing is better as well I am no longer afraid of writing an essay or communicating via email with another professor or some other professional resource.
In my writing at first I with many part of sentence structure and grammar. Trying to not mess up in structure I was unable convey my ideas. Over the course of the semester it has became easier by every essay. My improvement was some not severely, but learning the basic again will help me for all class and other English courses. Writing again was something I slowly was becoming accustomed again as before.
With my written essays, I simply revised the essays as I wrote. So, I assert that this course has helped me learn to manage my writing efforts a bit
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
Although I did not learn as many skills as previous assignments, this essay helped me practice my writing skills when writing a rhetorical essay, specifically in creating a thesis. In addition, this essay gave me the opportunity to write with personal motivation instead of anything else. It gave me a chance to see what I can do when I put my mind and heart into an

My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
There are other areas in my writing that I have improved on. I have improved on my grammar, verb constructions, use of verb tenses and organizational skills to make my writing flow better when reading. My overall progress in completing this ten weeks course was wonderful. Every steps and skills I learned in this English class will help me to improve on my writing skills in my other classes and will also help me in my future
But, looking back at all the essays I did I realized I learned a lot. I got into a routine and I learned from all my mistakes. I was so proud of myself when I bassically had a perfect essay last week. As a 10th grader some moments were stressful when I was assuaged the essay.
Major assignments -Work Projects- taught me how to write essays and include employed academic documentation (MLA). In this course, I’ve completed various reading assignments, did independent analytical thinking about what I’ve read, participate in discussions on what I’ve read, write about what I’ve read, and carry out research, this emphasis on reading was to show the importance of critical reading, and how it is going to benefit my studies. Understanding this academic essay structure, the use of rhetorical strategies in essay writing, writing a summary, formulating a thesis, and writing essays using rhetorical strategies. In English 100 we have written multiple types of papers and we have learned many new writing skills and strategies and ways to make our papers meet the collegian standard. English has always been one of my favorite subjects, I love writing papers and seeing the final copy and getting a good grade. However, English 100 has improved my writing skills in many different ways, I’ve seen the most growth in my grammatical skills. I’ve improved on how I use the same “types, endings” of words in sentences. Although, there is always room for improvement.
