Reflective Essay On AP Language And Composition

With the Holidays just around the corner, it is time to look back at how I have grown as a student this semester. While the transition has not felt as drastic as from 9th grade to 10th grade, I feel as if I have grown as a student a little more than in the previous years. To prove my growth these past fifteen weeks, I use a rhetorical essay, an AP mock essay, and a college field trip.

In AP Language and Composition, Mr. Shoji has been working to improve our essay-writing skills through studying the types that we will encounter on the exam in May and practice of these methods. Instead of being a document-based question or an art analysis, this took me out of my comfort zone and challenged me to work on something that was relatively new to me. The assignment also gave me an opportunity to practice important skills that I still haven’t mastered, such as incorporating quotes into an essay and structuring my sentence lengths effectively.

My greatest, and personally favorite, piece is another AP mock essay we attempted in AP Language, as it reflected my growth in two classes. Rather than basing this essay on grades, as in the case of the former, I have chosen this particularly on the fact that it reflected the overall growth I have had when it comes to writing passionately. Although I did not learn as many skills as previous assignments, this essay helped me practice my writing skills when writing a rhetorical essay, specifically in creating a thesis. In addition, this essay gave me the opportunity to write with personal motivation instead of anything else. It gave me a chance to see what I can do when I put my mind and heart into an
