Before this course, my style as a writer was very unprofessional and unclear. My documents often lacked a purpose and style that was unclear for the audience to understand. First, I used to only write in a way that was for me. I never took in consideration my audience. This course has taught me that when I write, I need to keep in mind of those who are reading the document. This way the readers are capable of understanding and knowing why the document was written. After this course, I learned that when I am writing it is often for others to read and review, not just myself. So it is important to keep them in mind while I compose the documents. This way I remember what the important details are to include for the reader that I may know, but the audience may not. I often thought it was best to write lengthy sentences that were wordy. From reading the chapters in Markel and the assignments, I found that being wordy is a big mistake. This is because it can lose interest of the readers. All too often I was misusing commas, and not thoroughly proofreading my writing. This affected my writing in a couple ways. Before this course, I barely ever proofread my writings. As I found out, there were many errors in my writing. These errors made my writing come off as unprofessional, and that I did not care about the details. Additionally, my grammatical errors effected the structure and meaning of my writing. I found out through this class that these errors could alter the meaning of a sentence by one simple misplace of a comma. From this class I now thoroughly proofread each of my writings. to do this I read through my reports out loud to see if the flow and structure sounds the same as when I am writing it. If not I will go back and fix the mistakes. Now that this course is over, I do see improvement in my grammar and proofreading of my
