About Writing Resources
Writing Resources was designed to assist struggling writers in alternative placement facilities who may not have access to resources such as those found in an English Language Arts classroom or school library.

The idea for this site came about from a Masters course I took in Library and Information Sciences called "Library Services for Youth in Custody". An assignment in this course called for an interview with an "expert in the field". Based on superficial knowledge of a program called the Transitional Learning Center affiliated with my local high school which provides off-campus educational services to at-risk youth, I opted to interview the director of the TLC and found he had a strong need for writing assistance. …show more content…

In determining the parameters for the site, I wanted to provide resources not only for the writing students, but also their potential teachers. As a current English Language Arts teacher myself, I realized that writing instruction might not be within the venue of all teachers that may be instructing the students... I know I would be uncomfortable trying to instruct students in biology, art, or any number of other topics. Therefore, I opted to include some resources for those whose specialty does not lie in writing.

Additionally, based upon my experiences and readings in the "Youth in Custody" course, I wanted to provide the opportunity for students to share their writing with the general public. Sometimes writing is a private matter, but sometimes one person's experience can touch another person in a deep and profound way. I wanted the students' writings to be meaningful and useful, and so I have included a forum to publish their work if they so choose. I also want the students to know how their work may have affected others, or how their work can be improved, so I am allowing for feedback on the submissions. I am opting to filter both submissions and feedback
