Prior to the beginning of this college level class, I perceived myself as an average to lower level writer. I was mildly frightened by the amount of essays I heard we were expected to write. I always had a knack for last minute papers, but I knew that this strategy wouldn’t cut it for these expectations. I am now equipped with the ability to turn an average paper into a marvelous piece. Composition has improved my writing dramatically in all five categories over the span of the semester.
Seeing writing as a recursive process was demonstrated in a few of my papers. This objective goes hand and hand with effort. In my literary analysis, there were a lot of times I was restating myself in different phrases. If I would have went back during my revision process and showed more effort in improving my overall message, I could’ve tied loose ends in my essay. I started off the semester really struggling. On my “This I Believe” essay I received a D in the category of correctness. I had sentence structures such as “I was throwing pitch after pitch and having the time of my life and I was more than excited”. Other than the excessive use of ands, my essay just didn’t flow. As the year progress I began learning from my mistakes. In my literary analysis, I cleaned up a few of my comma splices, but forgot a few simple things. I didn’t italicize book titles, and I realize struggled with inserting quotes from each of the books. From essay one to essay five, I’ve really improved my correctness. In my recent career research essay, I had a few capitalization issues with my career title, but my sentence structure was enhanced. This is a major part of becoming a stand-out writer, and I am more than aware that this will contribute to a more elite
