Being Hispanic in this American culture has allowed me to understand different perspectives. I attend LISA Academy, a public charter school, which has a majority of Turkish administration and faculty. From sixth grade I was given the opportunity to not only learn about my culture at home and the American culture at school, but also to learn about the Turkish culture from my teachers. I was invited to their homes and with time I realized that they are no different from Hispanics other than by their native language and origin. I was given the opportunity to appreciate this culture and relate to them. No race or ethnicity is inferior to another. When I was little I didn’t believe this, I understood that my family was not like others, that I had limitations in what I could and couldn’t do because we weren’t citizens, however with time my father has helped me realize that nobody needs a citizenship to dream. A dream is hindered by disadvantages, yet that does not stop one from chasing his dreams. Earlier in this school year I had fought as best to go to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. I was given the Silas Hunt Scholarship, considered for the ECAP program, and set up with an interview for the Path program to get into the honors college. With these opportunities I would be able to have a full ride, however later came a curveball. Due to my DACA status, the Silas Hunt Scholarship was removed, subsequently so was the ECAP interview, and I would be charged out-of-state tuition. This changed my options and I was disappointed, however thanks to a teacher in particular and the support of my parents I realized that my dream could not be stopped by one door closing. I currently plan to get my Bachelor of Science for Engineering Technology and Computer Science through the University of Arkansas at Little
