The role of a teacher is more than just simply ‘teaching’, standing in a classroom. You are a facilitator of learning. Their role and responsibilities are more advance, it is to be a key person through the learners learning journey.
Right from the first meeting of the learner. You will meet and have a discussion with the learner, finding out who they are. Asking key questions: what are their achievements so far? what are their interest? , what is their career aim? By having this initial discussion, you are already identifying the learner’s needs, ensuring they are going on the right course and level. You will continue to identify their needs, carrying out initial assessments and diagnostics, creating individual lesson plans and creating an ILP, gaining a good understanding of your learners and building the professional relationships while ensuring their progression.
As a teacher, your role is to complete detailed, clear and effective lesson plans. Carrying out Research, reading, obtaining appropriate materials, videos clips, preparing activities/resources. Making sure your lessons meets all the learners’ needs maintaining their retention, keeping in mind the ‘learning pyramid’. To provide a positive and effective environment you have three areas to consider, the physical, social and learning of the environment. For the physical side of the environment you need to consider health and safety, explore and check the environment identifying any hazard and removing these or complete a risk assessment. Check it is clean and tidy and that fire exit are not obstructed. Ensure your learners are aware of the fire exit procedures.
