The Ethics and Servant Leadership program aligns with my passions and long-term goals and I believe I would be a good fit given the opportunity to serve with the organization of my choice. The EASL program appeals because it is directly connected to one of the most important aspects of my life which is service and service learning. Throughout my undergraduate career I have dedicated my time to serving with others and learning about social justice related work. Emory introduced me to service on a deeper level than I had been familiar with and as a result service was integral to my development as a student leader. Through my involvement with Volunteer Emory I have had the chance to consistently engage in critical dialogue with my peers and professional staff about various social justice issues. I have led weekly service trips, alternative break trips, and now serve as the Director of the Alternative Breaks program. In the weekly large group meetings I will be able to bring these experiences to the table and contribute to the dialogue. In addition, because I have experience with service and an understanding of different ways it can manifest itself along the active citizen continuum I will be open to hearing and learning about others experiences with service and what it means to them. This translates to me being flexible and working well with others. Also,I have good communication skills which is one of the most important qualities in a leader. I value interpersonal relationships and believe that they are key to maintaining a good group dynamic. Lastly, I am organized, responsible and hardworking.
