One of the most important things that a person can do is learn to grow. As a 6’6” high schooler, growth has always come naturally to me. Whether it be through service or leadership, or some combination of both, my goal is to develop myself as a productive member of society and to positively impact the environment that surrounds me. Considering this, my vision for my college experience is simple: become equipped to live and serve my community in and outside of my career field. Universities prepare students for work within their desired area of employment. I love interacting with people and helping them develop themselves as productive citizens and people. From community volunteer work to service in school organizations and honor societies, people have always been my passion. That’s why I believe that the first step to achieving any goal is establishing a support system of people that will support the journey to success. This is the reason that I’ve become involved in several leadership and service organizations in my school, including student council, Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National English Honor Society, National Honor Society, varsity basketball, and chamber choir. In my role as President of FBLA and FCA, my position as Vice President in NHS, and my responsibilities as a team leader in student council and a section leader in chamber choir, I’ve learned how to lead a group of people in service and support. I’ve united these groups and utilized the support systems of people that we’ve created to serve at places and events including Harvester’s food donation/preparation, City Union Mission, school clothing and school supply drives, and community and campus trash clean ups. For me, success in my education is a stepping stone to success in my career and beyond. I plan to declare a marketing research major when the time comes and to pursue an MBA in the subject. Like most successful students, I do prioritize grades and test scores. A transcript is an undeniable decision-making factor for colleges and employers when a person is presenting himself. However, as my education has progressed, I’ve learned to place efficient learning above grades. Receiving an “A” in a course won’t always prepare a person to live an impactful life in his/her community, but actively engaging in a course and applying the information that is learned will. Learning is a lifestyle, and I plan to make it something that I pursue not only in my formal education, but in my career and my personal
