One of my short-term goals is to maintain my standing in the National Honor Society for my senior year. To keep this honor I must maintain a 3.75 grade point average in high school. This goal will be tough to accomplish considering that I am taking nine hours of concurrent classes each semester at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. It is very difficult to make good grade in college while I am still in high school because of all the extra-curricular activities I am involved in. Most college students have to go to class until noon and then they have the rest of the day to do homework or study.
The National Honor Society is built upon four founding principles: Scholarship, Character, Leadership, and Service. I have a high school life filled with dedication to these four principles on the Spiritual standpoint, the Familial level, the Community level and finally at the National level. Moreover, I did begin my dedication to these same four principles even before this starting with the Boy Scouts of America and this commitment will continue along with having a rich future when I reach my fullest potential. I firmly believe that to have academic excellence is giving your best effort to maintain not just having straight As and a high GPA at or close to the edge of attaining a 4.0, but to also have the skills that help you perform your very best in college and beyond. It is a great honor to be nominated as a member of the National Honor Society. There are many reasons why I want to take part in NHS. One reason why I want to be in it is to continue to grow academically with people who have the same goals as me. I want to be encouraged, not discouraged by the people around me. If I get into NHS, it will give me a lot of opportunities to be a leader.
The National Honor Society is an opportunity for many students, who are well educated with dreams and leaderships skills, to upgrade themselves. The sole purpose of this organization is to endeavor leaders in different societies to help out their community. It will help colleges to notify the leaders when looking at students’ resumes, for those students in this organization will be the few who are well-developed leaders in their school. Since this will be the first time to be given the opportunity to contribute to this organization, I may not know everything about the requirements in which I need to manage.
There are many reasons why individuals decide to come to college, one of which is for personal growth. I knew that when entering Bowie State University as a freshman that I did not want to graduate the same person as I was entering. I am constantly looking for ways to step out of my comfort zone and blossom into the woman I am destined to be. Growing up in Baltimore City, many individuals began to have trouble seeing the world outside of their daily environments. I know that the world has much more to offer than what I have been exposed to while living in Baltimore.
Service, leadership, character, and scholarship; these are the fundamentals that the National Honor Society has based themselves on. I, as a student at Forney high school, am going to try and live up to each of these standards in hopes of joining the NHS. My qualifications may be unique; however, I believe that I fit the requirements in order to become a member. Service, how have I served or can be of service. When it comes to the topic of service most think of community service or serving a table.
In life, achieving goals and ambitions that set a standard for your future self is a monumental factor regarding the pathway led by your passion. For me, my passion is helping others. Every program, organization, and sport that I am involved in has opened doors allowing me to be involved with children and their success; An accomplishment in its own. One of my beloved accomplishments is being selected as a member of the Oak Hill National Honor Society. This opportunity gave me a platform to help children of Hope Haven, a school that works with the young, and adults with special needs.
It is an honor to be nominated for the National Honor Society. The fact that I was nominated proves to me that all of my hard work and dedication has not been for nothing. The National Honor Society is known for recognizing students who strive to achieve their best not only in school but in themselves and the community. I believe that I’m one of those students. Based upon my last two year at Matawan Regional I now have a 3.9 GPA and am ranked in the top 20% of my graduating class.
First and foremost, leaders come in all shapes and forms, there is not one set physical mold for them, but what they all do share are certain characteristics and desires. Leadership in and of itself, is the ability to guide others, take responsibility, and share a vision that inspires and leaves others with a sense of empowerment. Evidently, it takes an exceptional leader to exhibit exceptional leadership skills. Additionally, the most prominent act that all adequate leaders demonstrate is that they are steadily engaged in enhancing their leadership skills. There have been various magnificent leaders throughout history, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Sojourner Truth, Nelson Mandela, and Eleanor Roosevelt.
I try my best to participate in as many as I can. These include Student Council, People Helping People, cross country, basketball (high school and AAU), softball, church choir and Relay for Life. The past three years I have been an officer in the Student Council and a member of a team whether it was sports or church. On the basketball court I am the point guard which is the playmaker of the team.
I am extremely honored to be eligible for this opportunity to apply for the National Honor Society. Becoming a member of the National Honor Society has been a goal I set for myself since I was a student in middle school. I have been greatly looking forward to this moment for a very long time. Overall, I have worked incredibly hard these last two years to display a positive character and obtain qualities such as leadership, responsibility, and scholarship. I strongly believe I will be a productive and reliable member of the National Honor Society at Harvard H. Ellis Technical High School.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama once said, “Success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.” This is something that I certainly live by. When I think about my own past experiences, I realize that the greatest joys in life are when one brings joy to others. Last night, I was teaching one of my karate students a concept that is considered difficult for most beginners to understand. I spent roughly thirty minutes working on it with him, and there was certainly some frustration.
The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars; Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Scholarship is one of the most important pillars to me. Scholarship means not only doing well in school and getting good grades, but applying what I have learned and using it everyday. I know the importance of education and feel that I am a lifelong learner. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in a family where education is a priority.
I will make sure to do my part by leading by example, serving my community and school, staying true to myself, and performing in school to the best of my ability. It would be an honor to be a part of such an extraordinary program in which I can better myself and my community. I am so thankful to the many teachers who have considered me as a candidate for the National Honor Society. As I aspire to become a member of this organization, I will make it my duty to be an active member in my community and will maintain my leadership, service, character, and scholarship
When I was a junior at JBS Law Magnet I was elected National Honor Society President. This job only was stressful and demanding, however I believed I wanted to do something else. Every year National Honor Society is in charge of the Freshman Mentoring program. The program was designed to pair incoming freshman with upperclassman. The mentoring program was supposed to help freshman adjust to the high school environment.
