There are many reasons why individuals decide to come to college, one of which is for personal growth. I knew that when entering Bowie State University as a freshman that I did not want to graduate the same person as I was entering. I am constantly looking for ways to step out of my comfort zone and blossom into the woman I am destined to be. Growing up in Baltimore City, many individuals began to have trouble seeing the world outside of their daily environments. I know that the world has much more to offer than what I have been exposed to while living in Baltimore. Further, growing up in Baltimore opportunities like this do not come by often. During my time at Bowie State, I have joined various organizations where I am able to give back to the community. As a member of the National Council of Negro Women, I am pleased when able to donate clothes to those in need etc. I am a member of the Golden Key, and National Honor society of leadership and success. Further, I am an alumni of Building steps which is a non-profit organization that helps prepare high school students in Baltimore city for college. This organization provides many students with guidance and resources to help students throughout high school and beyond college. Every chance I get, I always go back and volunteer as an alumni chaperone for the organization, which allows me to talk to students about my college experience as well as what they can expect as incoming freshmen. Additionally, I volunteer at the St. Vincent De Paul Beans and Bread Center in Baltimore when I am home from school. I believe that it is always important to help those who are less
