There are two models that I have learned from class, which are the Reggio Emilia approach and the Montessori approach. There are both successful educational approach on early childhood education in different purpose. The Reggio Emilia approach is placing the children to focus on natural leaning, inspiring learning and learning based on their interests. The Montessori approach is placing the children in a “well-planned and structured environment which will meet their individual educational and cultural needs (Hoban, 2013).” The two educational approaches are great for children to learn in their early live.
The Reggio Emilia Approach was developed after world war II by a teacher who was named Loris Malaguzzi (Kate, 2016). The learning approach is based on children’s interests in a self – guided curriculum in early year field. There are five fundamental principles in Reggio Emilia Approach. Children are capable of constructing their own learning (Kate, 2016). They are able to follow their own interests to learn what they want to learn. Children form an understanding of themselves and their place in the world through their interactions with others (Kate, 2016). Children will discovery the knowledge by themselves and adults are not the giver of the knowledge. It is important that children can figure out the questions by themselves.
