After 10 years working as a registered nurse in many aspects of healthcare, felt an overwhelming desire to advance my career and myself to expand my role in caring for others. Becoming a nurse practitioner has always been a goal of mine. During my time working as a nursing manager, I became acutely aware of the need of skilled and talented providers that desire to provide passionate care to all individuals. I became especially concerned with the needs those with limited access to healthcare services. I knew my desire to care for individuals in a more autonomous role and I set out to develop the skills needed to meet the need I witnessed.
As an individual with a passion of stepping into the lives of others during testing times towards making life easier, I am determined to develop a fulfilling career as a nurse practitioner. Having graduated in BSN from Barry University in 2014, currently I am serving the emergency department at SMH as a registered nurse. My fervor of transforming into an impeccable nursing professional through sharpening my knowledge and skills has inspired me to continue my education. At present, I am enrolled for the Master of Science in Nursing program at the Nursing School of Barry University and getting specialized in Nurse Practitioner Acute Care. I look forward to graduating in 2020.
Personal Essay Statement As a Haitian immigrant in America, no one I knew had a doctorate. The nursing profession resonates with me due to my compassion and appetite for professional development. I discovered the flexibility of the nursing career path as a young adult. One of these paths is to work as a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). I became intrigued by this career path.
I am interested in your New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Boston and recently obtained my MA RN license in August 2015. I choose to be an RN because I love learning about the anatomy and physiology of the human body and working with people. When I was a little girl, I would watch the Discovery Health channel instead of watching cartoons. In high school, I became interested in social justice work when I did a month long volunteer service trip to India.
I am very interested in obtaining a Registered Nurse position as new graduate nurse with Baptist Health. I have developed the skills and education to work as a nurse, which includes an Associate’s degree in nursing. A career as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is a natural extension of my personal, educational, and research experiences. Although my path to nursing has not been a straight line, every experience that put me on this path has shaped my passion and dedication to psychiatric nursing. I have always had a passion for furthering my education, and in the nursing field there are many opportunities to do that. As a recent inpatient, I was able to connect with my nurses and find a perfect connection between my love for people and the career itself. However, in my care I noticed that people were not always walking out of the hospital with the confidence that I wanted them to. When I become a registered nurse, I am confident that I will make a difference in the nursing environment so that patients are able to leave the institution stronger than they came in. My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
Growing up I have gained confidence and a delight in caring for others. This has come naturally to me as I am growing up surrounded by influential health care professionals, many of whom are nurses.
