In Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, relationships between Ender, Peter, and Valentine are revealed to the reader. Since Ender is a Third he is treated differently by all members although mainly Peter and Valentine. They all have very different relationships amongst themselves which makes for good contrast throughout the book. While Ender’s relationship with Peter can be described as dangerous, his relationship with Valentine is loving and protective. When Peter hurts and abuses Ender, Peter and Ender’s relationship dynamic is best described as toxic or dangerous. While Ender and Peter play he starts getting very aggressive and threatens Ender by saying that “‘[He] could kill [him] like this’...‘Just press and press until [he is] dead.”’ (line 33). Valentine knows how their game works and gets onto Peter trying to “Let [Ender] be the astronaut for once” (line 12). Valentines wants to help Ender and tries butting in to try and help Ender be the astronaut, since he is the bugger every time. She cares for Andrew’s well being and does not like seeing him hurt. Valentine knows how to stop Peter. Therefore she tells him she has a letter that is to be opened at her time of death saying that “...I didn’t die a natural death. Peter killed me, and if he hasn’t already killed Andrew he will soon. Not enough to convict [him], but enough to keep [him] from ever getting elected.” (line 52-55). Valentine knows how she can ruin Peter’s life with only one little letter. She thinks things out and knows how to play her moves. She helps Ender with this by threatening Peter's future dreams. Valentine and Ender have a very close meaningful bond. They are there for each other and protect each other from
