There are many different themes exemplified by Ellen Raskin throughout The Westing Game novel. An important theme in the novel is relationships. All of the heirs have different relationships with one another, but Turtle and Sandy's relationship was consistent until the end of the novel. They first met on page 7, where Sandy tells Turtle, Doug, and Theo a story about Sam Westing. Sandy and Turtle never connected then, but later in the novel they have the strongest relationship out of all the heirs.
When the boys get stranded on this island they must take care of themselves and try to get rescued. As the boys climb this mountain to get home they face new challenges which resulted them to descend into savagery. With these new challenges of killing the pig for the first time, them breaking the conch, and deaths of Simon and Piggy they to descend into savagery causing them to lose their innocence. After the boys crash landed on the island it was only a matter of time before the boys descend into savagery because lack of leadership, need for survival and loss of innocence. Their first goal on the island was to have fun and get rescued but throughout their stay, they get further away from that.

Our thoughts and reactions to Simon Abbott are: his main purpose on the island was to show and emphasize the savagery that took place between the group of boys. Golding used his fainting problem as a way for him to communicate with the beast and reveal the total evil that the island is succumb to. The author also used Simon’s brutal murder as a way to further emphasize the savagery of the boys and display a loss of innocents for Piggy and Ralph. Alex, I really liked your post. A few great points I want to hit on before diving into your questions. For one, the perpetuation of the noble savage is clear and paired with the idea of accepted culture of conquest really reminds me of the US ideal "manifest destiny". One line in the De Las Casas readings discusses who the indigenous peoples "must have known what was going on" when their culture was destroyed during conquest. This idea that they had a clue about the damage that was ensuing paints these people as complacent beings - when really they were skilled warriors, great farmers who lacked competitive firearms.

The book centers on Gene Forrester, a student at Devon, who could be described as an intelligent, but jealous, conformist. A Separate Peace illustrates Gene’s envy and imitation of his friend, Finny, and how it affects himself and his relationship with Finny, and also how Gene eventually finds peace.
In the book Renegades by Marissa Meyer, many things happen throughout the book that many will find interesting. This story follows two main characters, Adrian Everhart and Nova Artino/Mclain. In this world, there are these people who are prodigies with superpowers that they either inherit or are born with. There is also a Council that is made of the best superheroes or Renegades, all around the city that this book takes place in and the son of the top two Council members is Adrian Everhart with their leadership skills and the ability to make whatever he draws come to life. There are also villains in this world of heroes called the Anarchists and within these villains is the niece of the formerly ruler of Gatlon City during the Age of Anarchy.
