Relationships In The Taming Of The Shrew

In the play The Taming of the Shrew, Shakespeare writes about two couples that are completely different. One couple is Petruchio and Katherine, and the other is Lucentio and Bianca. Throughout the play there are a lot of differences that are shown between their relationships. I will write about these in the following paragraphs. The first couple I’m going to write about is Petruchio and Katherine. Katherine never wanted to get married, and no one really wanted to marry her. Then Petruchio came into town, In Act 1, Scene 2, Line 56-57 he says “I have thrust myself into this maze, happily to wive and thrive, as best I may.” By saying this he means he came into town looking for a wife and money. That is when Katherine was brought up and he became interested in her. The first time they met all they did was argue. For example, Petruchio asked her if her name was Kate, and she corrected him saying it was Katherine. After that he continued to call her Kate to annoy her. Even though Katherine didn’t want to marry him, her father (Baptista) let Petruchio marry her on that Sunday. …show more content…

The first time Lucentio saw Bianca, he said he was in love. As soon as he found out that Katherine had to be married before Bianca could, he made a plan with Tranio so he could. As Tranio distracted Baptista, Lucentio pretended to be a tutor to get closer to Bianca. The first time they meet though, Lucentio admits to being in disguise. In Act 3, Scene 1, Line 33-35 Lucentio says, “As I told you before, I am Lucentio, son unto Vincentio of Pisa, disguised thus to get your love.” After this Bianca tells him that she will keep his secret safe. Later on Lucentio speaks to Tranio about having a secret wedding with Bianca, so Baptista doesn’t find out. Then Bianca and Lucentio have a secret wedding without anyone
