Before Pixar became the power house in the film industry that they are today, computers were not as powerful or advanced yet. When the company first came into play in 1986, the only types of animation were classical animation, cel animation, or hand-drawn animation. To this day, I am still curious how they made the first Toy Story look so real. But, while doing research I learned to find that they used 3D computer animation to make this possible. 3D animation is what makes the characters and objects look so real in films. They create a depth that has completely changed the way the industry, not just Pixar, create movies. The program that Pixar uses to create these magnificent films is called “RenderMan”. RenderMan is a photorealistic 3D rendering software that Pixar designed for their company. They were able to create their own software. There are four main goals that are the focus: financial, customer, internal business processes, and learning and growth. Each of these goals focuses on specific questions ensure Pixar succeeds and to find out how important each of these options are to the project. The first goal, financial, is stated as “to succeed financially, how should we appear to our shareholders?”. The second, customer, is “to achieve our vision, how should we appear to the customer?” The third, Internal business processes, is “to satisfy our shareholders and customers, what business processes must we excel?” Finally, in learning and growth, the question is “to achieve our vision, how will we sustain our ability to change and improve?” Within these questions are the importance of each one, including objectives, measures, tactics, and initiatives
