Years past the industrial revolution, our climate is starting to show how we’ve affected it. From ocean levels rising and atmospheric temperature increasing, two articles cover and explain multiple forms of renewable energy sources that can help slow these problems that come along with climate change and global warming. Though the topics within these articles are similar, one explains the negatives, whereas the other expresses the possibilities. The article “Renewable Energy, Facts and Information” by Christina Nunez explains many types of renewable energy forms like Solar, Wind, and Hydro but also makes the reader aware of their environmental downsides. For example, solar energy has been on the rise in the market. Likely due to its reliability, ability to lower power costs, and to mitigate the usage of coal-powered power plants that emit carbon dioxide, also known as cO2, into the earth's atmosphere. Nunez focuses on the increased use of solar energy stating that “...from 2007 [to] 2017 the world's total installed energy capacity from photovoltaic panels increased a whopping 4,300 percent.” Purposefully showing an increase in solar energy use displays that society is slowly moving in a good direction and may encourage readers to do the same. Where does Moriarty & Honnery fit into this conversation? By stating an obvious downside to solar energy. Moriarty & Honnery explain that during the winter, energy needs are higher, but the energy output of solar plants is at a minimum during the winter months. Less sunlight during winter equals less solar energy. Though both articles seem to have similar audience reach, they have many variances. Both have effectively shown their purposes and reached their intended audiences. Both Nunez and Moriarty & Honnery explain multiple forms of renewable energy sources efficiently. But since they have different targeted audiences, they focus on different aspects of these renewable energies. Effectively, Nunez gets their points across well while letting the readers know the benefits and impacts of renewable energies. Whereas Moriarty and Honnery simply list the benefits and possibilities to the readers. These articles perform successfully towards their targeted audiences and provide excellent information and data to back up their claims and
