Born or made?
The topic I chose for my research paper is serial killers. More specifically, are serial killers born or made? I believe serial killers are made. Although, there have been cases that would say otherwise. I believe serial killers are made. Most serial killers are psychopaths. Psychopathic tendencies are discovered in children at a young age. It is believed that future murders start off by mutilating animals or performing their killing fantasies on animals. An example of this is H.H Holmes. H.H Holmes was born in Gilmanton, New Hampshire in 1861 and was considered one of Americas first serial killers. Dahmer grew up in a steady, healthy, and loving home. Dahmer was described as a happy, energetic and enthusiastic child, until the age of four. At the age of four Dahmer’s true self began to shine through. At that age Dahmer became secluded, quiet and had no friends. Dahmer became the creepy kid who would sit in the corner and watch. As a teen, Dahmer had a severe drinking problem. No one knew where this problem came from. Dahmer’s household was considered a loving and nurturing home. Around this time Dahmer committed his first murder. Dahmer picked up a hitchhiker, brought him to his parents’ house, hit him in the head and strangled him with a barbell. he dismembered the body, put the parts into plastic bags and buried them in his back yard. Shortly after Dahmer’s alcohol problem grew. His alcohol consumption was so bad that his dad recommenced that he enlists in the army. After enlisting, Dahmer’s interest in men increased. Dahmer was rumored to have murdered approximately seventeen homosexual men. Dahmer’s choice of killing his victims was strangling or blunt force trauma to the head. However, it was the events afterward that shocked the nation. After committing the murders, Dahmer would cut up the bodies, store what he seemed fit, and then proceed to have sexual intercourse with the remains. Season four episode twenty is about a young boy name Adam Jackson who was extremely poor and was abused by those who were supposed to help him. In order to mentally survive, his mind created an alter ego named Amanda. As he grew into adulthood, Amanda would take control during certain situations and rape and murder anyone who she feels treated Adam unfairly. When the B.A.U (behavioral analysis unit) caught up to him, they realized that Adam was gone and the person responsible for all murders was Amanda. Adam was sleeping in his subconscious and had no idea of the events occurring. In this case it may seem that this serial killer was made but although his upbringing was horrible, Adams mind was so mentally fragile that he created an alter ego and she was in control. His upbringing played a part but Adams weak subconscious was really the cause of him becoming a serial killer
